Opening the Oyster: African American Foodways in Rhode Island, 1726-Present

Opening the Oyster: African American Foodways in Rhode Island, 1726-Present In-Person

Opening the Oyster is an extraordinary look at Black culinary arts, foodways, and dishes invented by Rhode Island African American master chefs from the 18th & 19th centuries, including Duchess Quamino, the Pastry Queen of Rhode Island; Cuffy Cockroach, inventor of the turtle frolick; Albro Lyons, purveyor of ice cream; and George T. Downing, the nation's premier caterer. Presented by Robb Dimmick, scholar and Stages of Freedom co-founder, this is a delectable talk on the genius of African American cuisine.
