Bark, Leaves and Sycamore Trees Class In-Person
In collaboration with Second Half Lifelong Learning Institute, local adults are invited to participate in a 6 week course titled Bark, Leaves, and Sycamore Trees, led by Garry Plunkett. Garry has studied New England forests for 30 years and is a principal steward for 1500 acres of preserved forest in Tiverton.
Course description: There is no better place on earth for temperate forests than New England, so trees have been part of our history and culture since the retreat of the ice age. But, environmental stresses are threatening critical ecosystem services provided by forests. We can help by protecting them, and “bringing nature home” – better connecting our personal spaces with the original New England “forest primeval.” This study group will help you become more knowledgeable with both native trees and our forest ecosystems, and thus better enjoy walks in the woods, better connect your yard with nature, and better understand one of nature’s great inventions, the tree.
There are 10 seats allotted for Tiverton Library patrons. Interested students may sign up through the library’s calendar, found on their website www.tivertonlibrary.org, or by calling the library at (401) 625-6796. Registration is open through Friday, August 31st.
Note: Upon registering for this class, the information you provide will be shared with the course instructor so that they may contact you regarding the course. By registering you are acknowledging and accepting that your information will be shared in this way and for this purpose.
