In talking about her award-winning book, The Year the World Stood Still, author and artist Susan Brescia will share the story of how she turned adversity into something positive during COVID-19 and what inspired her to memorialize this once-in-a-lifetime community event.

Sue will discuss the creative process of journaling through art while you observe displayed original charcoal drawings. She will read snippets from their accompanying real-life stories of love, heroism, selflessness and hope.

The Year the World Stood Still received an IPPY Award Gold Medal for Outstanding Book of the Year.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Sue is no stranger to journaling through art. Since she can remember, she used works of art, be it through drawing, songwriting or musical composition, as a form of expression with hopes of inspiring others to do the same. No stranger to adversity, the collection of Susan Brescia’s life experiences have sculpted her into the artist she is today. She started out pursuing a musical career before her life was derailed by a rare cancer in her late 20s and has held several benefit concerts over the years to help raise funds for various charities. Although she spent most of her professional career as a creative director, she didn’t stop creating various works of art as she believes that one’s gifts are meant to be shared.
